When COVID interrupts your plans

I left my aunt's telling her I was off to catch sunrise at Presque Isle. I was not disappointed. There are many trails to wander and I found spots that I sent to my father and sister for ashes ideas. I was happy as I talked and played with lake Superior. The park was so beautiful in its fall foliage with the sun and the water. I did not regret leaving my aunt's so early once I got to the park.

I woke early this morning to head to Presque Isle park in Marquette. Both my sister & father have talked about having their ashes released here when they die. It was a big part of my early years, and is a beautiful park.
It would take me the better half of a day to search all these rocks for a Petoskey stone, but I am reminded of how many rocks in this lake are from my trying to learn how to skip rocks when I was little.

My father's ashes place...no, he's not dead yet.

Black rocks is where my sister wishes to be set free.
One of many more docks  along the shores in Marquette.
Between Marquette and Munising, there is a sculpture park known as Lakenland. I learned about it because the North Country Scenic Trail passes near it or through it. I had time, so I decided to stop. It is a drive thru park with the ability to get out, have a picnic, walk around, if you want. The day was overcast and raining off and on, so I drove through. Besides, I still needed to make it to the lower peninsula by nightfall.

Munising is one end of the Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore. My father's uncle lived in Munising, and we would visit him often in the summer and then around Valentine's Day while he was alive. One of the places this uncle would take us when we visited was Munising falls. So, when I'm in town, I like to visit. The fall foliage again being an amazing highlight to the trip.
Then on to Pictured Rocks. Miner's Castle is one of the iconic stops along the Lakeshore. When I was young and my parents were still married, they backpacked the pictures rocks. The previously mentioned Uncle brought us to miner's Castle during that time, as we were staying with him, and we ended up rescuing my parents and their friends early. It always holds a dear place in my heart.

And on to the lower peninsula...once I get across the mighty Mac, Mackinaw Bridge. As a kid, I would do the Labor Day bridge walk, and traverse this 5 mile bridge. It was fun and amazing as tons of people turned out for this event. Driving across it is not for the faint of heart. In the 80s or 90s, a Yugo blew off this bridge. Winds can make travel extra interesting, and it is often suggested for semi-trucks and those commercial vehicles pulling trailers to drive really slow and stay to the inside lane.

Ahhh... Made it to my mom's town in time for G&D pizza, a staple in my high school diet growing up. You can buy a slice of pizza for $1. Now, every time I'm home, I have to stop & get pizza.
Then, on to my other aunt's house, who lives maybe 5 miles from my mom, on the property where I grew up. When I visit, she & my uncle let me beat them at Mexican train dominoes. Very thankful for my aunt allowing me to stay with her last minute. She always has been the one to care for me in need.
