Day 8: Moro, OR; Easter Celebrations
We all dug into the candy, after a miniature egg hunt inside the house, and explored all the fun things left by the Easter bunny. Eventually, we made breakfast and had real food.
I was feeling a little rough from my alcohol binge the night before, so I was very thankful for the toast with breakfast. As the morning wore on, kids faded to naps. The hope was to go for a walk at a state park all of us. Unfortunately, my friend's husband tweaked his knee doing chores and 2 of the 3 we're down for naps at the time we left. At least my friend, her eldest, & I were able to get out for a walk.
We headed to Cottonwood Canyon State Park. It was on the Columbia river and absolutely gorgeous. Jasper got the chance to swim briefly in the water. We enjoyed watching birds flying above. The history of the area was written out on the fences throughout the various areas of the park. My friend says the park is full of rattlesnakes in the summer, so she only comes during the fall, winter, and early spring. The day was warm, so I kept my eyes on Jasper. Don't need him getting bit by a rattlesnake miles from help!
After our brief, but decent with a 5yr old walk, we stopped to throw horseshoes; neither the 5yr old nor myself were any good. Then, I worked on teaching Jasper to use the drinking fountain. Really wish I had gotten a photo of that! He did quite well.
We headed back home to prepare for the family Easter gathering. I took a brief much needed nap before showering and heading to my friend's house. I drove the 2 blocks from the hotel because the house dogs were to be there, thus he would be safest and most comfortable in the car.
After dinner and cutting into the gender reveal cake for my friend's pregnant sister, I took Jasper for a quick poop walk without success. Once family departed, and the children were put to sleep, my friend & I were finally able to have some time together.
We took a walk around the neighborhood as we caught up. She showed me the Sherman county courthouse, and we discussed things to see and do for tomorrow.
Upon return to the house from our walk, we stood outside chatting and gossiping about nursing school friends. I agreed to show up in the morning about 0715 to see her eldest off to school and stay with the younger 2 during that time as her husband would be at work. Off to the hotel I went from there.
