Alone Again...

https://youtu.be/bYdouqEQEcw

Soooo...despite the beautiful campsite, I got freaked out and departed for a truck stop in Wyoming.

As the night grew closer, I watched the surrounding people pack up their fishing gear and leave. The signs coming into the sweet dispersed camp spots all talked of no fishing from that location, but I guess the people around me either hadn't seen the signs or didn't really care!?  With the approaching darkness, it began to get cold as well. So, the 2 of us retired to the tent. I completed my journal entry for the day, and then worked on finishing my first book of the trip. Finally, I decided I was too cold and tired to remain awake anymore. That's when the noises in the creek started.

At first, I just thought it was fish or the water catching in the little pool by our site. Then, Jasper became alert and was sniffing the air. He looked ready to pounce. So, of course, I unzip the tent door to look with my headlamp...nothing.

Jasper layed back down, when I popped back in the tent and told him I didn't find anything. However, that did not last long. Another noise in the creek, louder this time and sounding big. I tried to block it out and go to sleep. My brain wasn't having it. It wanted to play the what if game. What if it's a moose, and Jasper startles it, and we get trampled? What if it's one of the bears the signs upon entering the flaming gorge mentioned as being awake and hungry? What if it was something not as big, but a bigger nuisance? ...oh, and what is up with that shovel by the chopped wood?...

Worried about being vulnerable, as I was all alone...other than Jasper, I packed everything into the car with the idea that we would safely sleep in the car at the site. As I lay in the car trying to sleep, the shovel kept running through my head along with the fact that I was all alone, devoid of humans to hear me scream and potentially help. Anyone could grab that shovel, bash in my car window, and pull me from the car. I've seen it so often in horror movies.
So, ...I gave Jasper the entire backseat, got in the front and took off for possibly a hotel or maybe even a semi- more populated campground. That's when I ended up at a truckstop in Wyoming about an hour west of Green River, WY.

I was going to hide amongst the trucks; however, the spots looked like they were reserved. So, I parked in the normal car lot as far away from the building as I could without being directly under a street/parking lot lamp. I was so tired by then that I had no problem falling asleep. Occasionally, I was awakened by trucks pulling out, but still managed to get some decent sleep.

The whole time, all I could think about was that shovel and how I was all alone. The song at the start of this post is also what kept running through my head. I hope I figure out this camping thing, though. I love nature, and it makes me feel whole again after rough days. If I can't camp due to irrational fear of being alone, then I guess I better figure out how to get my friends out with me for an overnight or more!?
